Established in Truth
“Now to Him who is able to establish you according to
my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ,
according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret
since the world began, but now made manifest, and
by the prophetic Scriptures made know to all nations,
according to the commandment of the everlasting
God, for obedience to the faith – to God, alone wise,
be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.” –
Romans 16:25-27
To most of us, being grounded in Biblical truth is a desirable goal, but
can seem difficult at times. In Romans 16:25-27, Paul identifies three
things in which we ought to be established as believers: 1) Paul’s
gospel, 2) the preaching of Jesus Christ, and 3) the prophetic
Scriptures.
As we begin to read, study and learn more about the gospel, we will
find that the teachings of the apostles, the preaching of Jesus and the
Old Testament Scriptures are there to establish us. If we find
ourselves struggling to have confidence in the things we have
believed and heard, we have to ask ourselves, how much time do we
spend studying these things?
Scripture teaches us the word of God is powerful (Heb. 4:12). If our
faith is wavering, what we need is a stronger devotion to seeking out
the truth within the teachings of the apostles, Jesus, and the O.T.
Scriptures. It is there, and only there, in which we can be established
“for obedience to the faith.” - David
